NATION TO NATION
Land rules.
The Land has power over Nations.
Nations answer to the Land.
Nations have responsibility to respect and serve the Land.
Nations are the custodians and representatives of the Land.
Nations hold power over States.
State power, although backed by violence, lacks legitimacy.
Nations communicate with other Nations.
Be your own Nation.
Declare independence.
Text by Hank Bull
HANK BULL was born at Moh’kins’tsis (Calgary) and lives with gratitude on the traditional and unceded territory of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Nations (Vancouver). In 1973, he joined the Western Front Society, where he explored radio art, cabaret performance, shadow theatre, video, publishing and curatorial practice. As a participant in global art networks, he collaborated on early explorations in telecommunications. He has contributed to the development of artist-directed economies of exchange and produced numerous international projects. Throughout a long career, he has continued to make art in a range of media, including painting, photography, video, music, and sound. His works are in major museum collections, including the Museum of Modern Art and Museum Ludwig in Cologne, Germany.
